Looking for some advise. Reloading 9mm for plinking, was wondering what you all liked for a powder. No fighting please. Just looking for most loads per can and price. Thanks

I have had excellent results with several. Unique is a very consistent performer, as are the
fast ones like Bulleye and Titegroup. I traded into a 8 lb can of a weird French powder
that is only useable for 9mm. Yes, I know that sounds like a dumb thing to say but the maker
ONLY lists 9mm data, and after trying it in 2 or three other likely candidate cartridges, I
have to agree - it is spooky in other cartridges.

In any case - I am still using this stuff up on 9mm and it works great so I am several year
away from needing to use anything except SP8 for 9mm loads, so my info is from old
experience.

You cannot go wrong with Bullseye. 4 gn. in the 9mm works for me. BC

I use 4g Unique. One thing to remember with Unique is it seems to put off a lot of smoke.

Bullseye, Win 231, Unique, AA#5 have all worked well for me. Currently using AA#5 at 5.6 gr. for the LEE 125 gr RN run through .358 die on the Lyman 450. Just touches the mold lines.

My main plinking load for 9mm is the 125gr Lee RNFP bullet over 4 grains of WW231/HP38.

7000/4 is 1750 rounds per lb.

My favorite is 4.2gn of HP-38 behind a Lee 120TC. Consistent good shooting through a number of different 9mm's.

I bought some surplus AA2 years ago and like it in a 9. 4.2 gr and a 124 gr boolit.

So far, that exact load has been my best/most consistent performer in 9mm. Recently I tried some Blue Dot and was REALLY pleased with the results.

For jacketed, the only powder I'll use anymore for 9mm is AA#5.

That W231 is very good for 9mm. Also great for 45acp and 38 spec. I even use it for mid range loads in 44 mag. 950FPS loads in 44 spec. One pound goes a long ways and it meters very good.

I have loaded 9MM for 3 decades and have used Unique, W231, and Bullseye. Overall, I have loaded %99 of my loads with Unique because I have been able to load just about everything with it. Buying 4 and 8 pound canisters of Unique is the norm as I use so much of the powder. Within the past few days I have loaded 1500 rounds of 40S&W, 2000 9MM, 100 rounds of 30-30, 100 rounds of 38Sp, and 50 rounds of 44Mag. I also primed 2000 pieces of 38Sp but didn't load them as I ran out of lead. Yup, spent the weekend casting, reloading, and listening to baseball or NRA news podcasts. Oh ya, I'm down to 500 small pistol primers and a little more than a pound of Unique. Time to scrounge up some more lead, buy some primers and powder, and cast up enough boolits for the 4 coffee cans of 38Sp and 3 coffee cans of 9MM. I'm holding off on the 2 coffee cans of 357Mag until my checkmaker comes in from Pat. Then I suppose I'll need even more Unique. Frank

I used to use Titegroup but I switched to Unique. 5gr under a 125gr cast bullet works fine in my 9mm.

My current favorites are Ramshot True Blue and Alliant Power Pistol. When I run out of Power Pistol I'm going with True Blue exclusively. Both are bulky enough to help prevent double charges and both give excellent velocity and accuracy. Neither is especially dirty but since I clean my guns after every firing "dirty" is theoretical for me.

As is usual and customary, you need to work up to the charges that are safe for you for whatever powder you choose. For cast (124 grain Lee TC or RN lubed with LLA) I load 5.5 grains Power Pistol for an average 1,150 fps MV per my PACT2 chrono. For jacketed (124 grain) 6.1 grains of True Blue gives me a hair less MV but still a fine load.

JMO, choosing a powder on cost is kind of peny wise & pound foolish. COnsider powder is the cheapest part of any handgun load. Buy on performance. For 9mm, tough to beat W231 for light to med loads & WSF for med to full power. TG, never, BE, almost like oading black powder. There are better choices.

+1, with any cast bullet from 115 - 125 gr.

Ive tried some of fast burning powders as BE ,Tightgroup & 231 in the 9mm & 38 super ! so it would be more economical to load , while they will work , ive gotten the best accuracy with 4 different cast bullets designes with powders such as , Power Pistol , WSF , WAP & HS6 in 2, 9mms & 2, 38 supers, with the bullets sized to .357 dia.

I like WSF. Fills the case better than the faster powders and works quite well.

Unique, Bullseye, Universal Clays, HP-38/W231, Titegroup and AA #5 are all great options. More powders out there, but I like the aforementioned the most.

Titegroup, doesn't take a lot and in my area is a lot cheaper.
