I have a '60's marlin 336sc in .35 rem. I also have a .35-200-fn mould.

I have been using win 748 with acceptable accuracy but it's kinda dirty, and I'd like a bit more versatility with the gun.
What are your favorite powders for this cartridge/boolit?

troy: I have a similar Marlin in .35 Rem. Using the RCBS 35-200-FN cast boolits, my rifle Loves Varget. Excellent accuracy, and Varget is said to be much less temperature sensitive than the Winchester powders. This makes it much easier to play with loads and confirm zero before the hunting season starts; and still have confidence in the loads after it gets much colder. -Ed

I like 2015. I tried some of the Russian 4895, which is about Varget speed, too slow, a caseful didn't get up to pressure and burnt dirty.

IMR 3031 works great for me with both the NOE copy of the RCBS and the Ranch Dog mold.

there's a alot of powders that will work, you may have to try different kind to see what it likes. H335 is a good powder too.

I like H335 in my 35 Remington, but I don't shoot cast out of it, from what I've observed ball powders burn better near max loads, cast don't run that fast well, maybe with a gas check?

My favorite powder for the .35 Remington is IMR4064. Both my Marlin and Contender like a slightly compressed charge and deliver excellent accuracy and burn clean.

I haven't figured out what is best with boolits, but my 1987 vintage Marlin likes H335 better than 3031 with the red coated pretenders from Hornady.

Mine is a Remington Model 8 autoloader with a wonderful old tang sight; she's my favorite for pigs. I suspect the old autoloader may prefer something different from lever actions. Anybody have a preferred powder for the Mod 8 or 81?

my marlin 35 rem loves the noe copy of the rachdog boolit with a very health dose of 3031

Glen Fryxell wrote an excellent article on loading both cast and jacketed for the .35 Remington, check out lasc.us and you'll find it in the index to all his articles.

I don't have a lot of experience with mine yet, but 24.5 grains of RX 7 was spotlessly clean and shot, no kidding, a sub-caliber group for me at 50 yards with a 4x scope using some 200-grain Lymans that had plain-based checks the only time I had it out shooting with that load.

My Remington semi-auto liked H335 but I never got a .35 lever gun.

My 35 Rem is partial to H4895 with the 35-200-FN but it is a bolt action. Should workvery well in the lever gun though.

RX7? Is that aliant rl7?

I think so. I often call Alliant (Hercules) Reloder #7 RL 7 or RX 7. Excellent powder for many of the medium caliber, medium velocity cartridges I love. If you want a 180-200 grain boolit to do 1800-2100fps from a medium bore rifle Reloder #7 is worth a look.

Sorry for the confusion guys, I often go out of Lyman books where Alliant's Reloder 7 is abbreviated RX7. It's and extruded, single-base powder with very small granules, meters much better than the IMR extruded powders and develops a lot of velocity for it's burn rate in medium-sized, lower pressure calibers like .35 Rem, .30WCF, .32 Win Spl, and many others. Not the only powder that will work well by any means, I just hit a home run in my .35 the first time I tried it with that powder.

Troy -

Howdy !

For 200gr ( cast or "J"-word ), I like IMR3031; and Lyman's reloading guide charge data seems spot on for using IMR3031.

For redux loads, I've had great success w/ IMR 4759, and some really good results w/ "Trailboss".

IMHO - .35 Rem has ideal case capacity for .35 cal, and as a result; is under-appreciated as an " accuracy " round.

A look @ the various reloading books/data will show that .35 Rem is ideally situated in the bench rest powders zone ( IMR8208, VV133, Benchmark, H4198,
AA2015, H322; et al ).

There's a lot of great pwoder choices to be had. But, 3031 is hard ot be, in my book !

That's the powder and boolit that I started with years ago. Over time, I've taken up using 3031 as well. Never saw a need to try anything else, but might after I read some of the other answers that guys have sent in. Just to see. 3031 and 748 tend to shoot pretty straight with that boolit.

I have 2 different 35 marlins,a 1952,and a 1980...The 1980 accuracy powder is h-4895,and the 1952 is h-335.Both guns are run wide open velocity,with the rcbs 200 boolit.Both guns shoot super good.
