View Full Version : Annoyed with E-bay

Normally, I like to look at the used reloading equipment listed on E-bay, but lately it has been nothing but a big hastle! I browsed through the first 15 pages of reloading equipment, and saw nothing but new equipment for sale by commercial vendors.... 15 PAGES, mind you full of commerical sales!!! So much for the garage sale atmosphere over there! They have been pushing out the "little guy" for along time.

Why don't they just have a "vendor" section and a "casual seller" section? If you do more than ___(insert number here)____ sales a month you are a VENDOR.

Ebay is trying to make lots of money, but they are loosing the casual sellers. I'm just getting sick of all the commercialism, and anti-garage seller policies.

OK, I'm finished complaining...

Well if you think E-bay is bad check out the gun auction sites (auction arms, gun broker) and look under their reloading "auctions". 98% retail. I used to buy stuff on those sites but don't even look anymore...:violin:

I agree totally Roundnoser.

I used to enjoy browsing. Now it's a chore. And so time consuming.

It's just not worth it to me anymore. I have better use of my time.

I've used eBay and Paypal a little bit each year for several years. Now I am getting messages that I need to link my bank account with my Paypal account. BS...I say. They make money off of every transaction and I'll be D***** if I see a need for that much of my personal information. I have now quit using PP and eBay for that reason. Rant over............................

The thing I do not care for is you cannot even sell on e-bay without having a PayPal account. and most of the times can not buy anything either without it. So us few that do not use credit cards are out of the link.

I ran into the same thng until I selected the "view auctions only" and it eliminates all the commercial postings with the set prices etc. Makes it a lot more funt.

I agree with you that 90% of e-bay is new stuff and most of the time well over priced. As a suggestion you could search for what you want and then use the "used" or "pre-owned" checkbox. Most of the time it will be from a smaller vender.
The problem I have with e-bay is all the snipers that come in in the last 15 seconds of an auction. Another problem is seller ignorance and their inability to describe what they are selling. Forgot fuzzy pictures, lack of pictures and pictures of something from across the room.

I use my credit union debit card.
I save money twice. Once by not using a bank and once by using a free debit card.
I love ebay,,,, :bigsmyl2: 157 items to date.

How about the double cavity boolit mould that sold for $229.50 on 4/29/2012. A .22 caliber no less. Some privately arranged sale had to have taken place regardless of the ending price (against eBay TOS and user agreement). Be real careful of the reloading and gun stuff on eBay, a lot of sellers of estates that have no ideas what they have. There was a boolit mould listed as antique, but a quick check of the current catalog by that manufacturer shows it as a current offering.

Yea eBay has pushed out the casual seller.
I tried to sell stuff on eBay I read about it for weeks and followed everything I learned and my items were on the 5th page even though I paid extra to get to the top the first few pages are all the same 2-3 sellers.

you just have to keep looking for what you want, I wanted a press mount rcbs aps priming tool,in the $70s, found one for $35, said the push rod was missing.when I got it, it had the strip loader with it, and about 20 strips.some times you get lucky.:bigsmyl2:

Yeah' ebay's my best friend, I live 3hrs from the closest major city/shopping centre, if I could order my milk & bread with ebay I would. :-)

But you're right, its been abused by vendor's & their like, but once you learn to use all the shortcuts & bypass them it aint so bad. [smilie=b:

My biggest hate is PayPal, down here in Oz when a Boolit related purchase is made, usually from the USofA, their $ conversion rate is always approx 4 cent's below the going rate.

Not only do they hit the seller with fees, they make extra out of the buyer as well. :x

eBay has competition. Not much, and not large, perhaps not what you want.

But it's growing.

I buy most of my items from the "Casual seller" sales.
But,,,
If I see something I can't find locally but is a "Buy it now",,,, Why not buy it if it is a OK deal?
I must be a serious buyer,,, I look at every page of items I am looking for.
Last year, I bought a expensive, wide angle Sony lens, for my video camera for $58 that was on about page 143. I could have bought it from a page closer to the front, but I would have had to pay well over $500, (yep, five hundred bucks) for it.

Wow. I tried this, and all the 'Buy now' items disappeared! Way to go, Matt!

O.K....I give up! Where is this "view auctions only" option? I looked over the main page and didn't see it ?!?

Ah HA! Never mind......I found it. Left hand column under "auction formats". Works well!

Dittos, Wal' !!!

I loathe Paypal, but need evilBay. I also am hours from any metro area where I could easily get stuff that's beyond the inventory at Walmart, AutoZone, and True Value. Often the quickest way to find what I need is searching on evilBay.

A couple of years ago I read a business magazine article about how evilBay wanted to become Amazon. (A site I hate even more than evilBay.) To do that they had to cripple the small sellers, which consume too much of their management overhead. Paypal is part of that business model, IMHO. Worked on me - I quit selling on evilBay as soon as they made Paypal mandatory, and also made it impossible to give a crooked buyer negative feedback. I still have a semi-load of motorcycle stuff that I'd like to sell, but it can stay where it is until there's a better site than evilBay. For gun stuff, OTOH, there's Gunbroker, which works just fine for me.

I've been getting these same messages for about a decade now. I still have not linked the account and have had no problem purchasing anything.

Okay, I apologize. This was a legitimate auction, but for what that bidder paid for the item they could have had one made exactly like it with more cavities by any number of companies.

Okay, as was pointed out to me, it would probably cost a lot more to have a custom mould made.
