hello

i am new to casting, i have cast about 4000 45acp 230gr boolets, my brother and i are thinking of going together to cast for 9mm and 38, i know it depends on exact barrel size but my question is: is anyone using the same mold for both and using a sizing die to get the boolets to exactly the size needed??

thanks

Hello and welcome!

I have used 358.5 in both 9mm and 357. These were unsized and pan lubed from a Lee 6 cav group buy: "the Slippery 9" mold. I think success is also commonly had from the Lee 105 swc; my 9mm likes it, and my friends 357 agrees.

You could always get a mold that drops 359, shoot the 357 unsized, and size down for the 9mm.

I have shot the Lee 125RN in .38 and 9MM for years and have probably cast over 250K of that boolit. I have also used the Lee 105SWC in .380, 9MM and .38 with great success. I have recently picked up the Lee 120TC which as cast is large enough for .38 but should work fine in the 9MM. The 125RN and 120TC both weighed 126 grains when cast with a 50/50 mix of soft lead and wheel weights. I have a .35PB checkmaker coming from Pat which uses soda can aluminum to make checks for use on plain based boolits. When I get the opportunity to check some boolits I'll post a report. Frank

Lee 356 120 TC should work, but I have not tried it in .38 Spl - great one in 9mm at .357 or
.358. I have also had great results with the Lee 357 105 SWC in 9mm, and never tried it
in the revolver cartridges, either. Should work well, too.

Yes i have 3 Saeco 9mm/38 super moulds and all will cast bullets large enough to size to .358
I size all of my 9mm & 38 super bullets to .357 dia , I tried .356 but every pistol shot better with .357 dia bullets even if the barrel sluged @ .355
I would try .358 in your 9mm and see how they work out for you as far as accuracy & leading if everythings ok you may only need a >358 sizer for the 38 & 9mm
