Hi all, have a few pieces of once-fired +P brass I'd like to try some hotter loads in for a friend and myself. Colt 1911s - will be set up for heavy loads. Small radius firing pin stop, heavy recoil and main springs, buffer.

Looking for some data.

Thanks

EDIT: also interested in .45 Super.

Check out the Speer #12 reloading manual. It has loads for the Speer 260 grain jacket hp with the Herco powder.

Not with the powders you have listed but I used to use HS6 for the hotter loads . There's +P data in the hogedon manual I have from a few yrs back

Cannot speak for anything but Herco, but Alliant went up to 7 grains with a 230 JHP and did not list this as a Plus P load. 6.7 grains got around 890 for an average using the Winchester 230 JHP loaded to 1.210 in my five inch 1911's. It's a good standard and somewhat enhanced velocity 45 ACP powder.

Since the heavy recoil springs increase battering of the pistol upon slide return, and increase the odds it will malfunction, I'd go with a 16 to 18 lb. spring. That, the mainspring and small radius stop are sufficient. The recoil spring heaviness is too much of a bad thing.

Thanks! I agree on the recoil spring.
