I am looking for a load for .45 acp using Unigue or Titegroup and a Lee 228 gr. bullet in a 1911.

+1 for 6 grains of Unique, it cycles every .45 acp pistol I have and with boolits or j-words.

I use 5.6 grns of Unique with a 230 grn bullet. It makes "major" everytime in USPSA, yet is very good for matches.

If doing a lot of steel shooting load minor, less recoil and faster followup. I load 3.8 to 4 grs of wst or Bullseye in 45 acp. When running Unique I would be in the low 5.X weights. I use the Lee 200swc in a Kimber 1911, but this load also works in my G21SF.
I started with the 6.0gr Unique load, but when the name of the game is speed recoil is not your friend.

Gary is correct. Load it down until it is unreliable and then up it just enough to make it work again. A lighter recoil spring might be in order to be able to do this properly. Steel plate is not the same as IDPA where they require a power factor. -- Bill --

I would think a good Bullseye target load of 3.5-4.0 of Bullseye and a 185-200 swc would work just fine. For speed shooting I would think the last thing you want is a heavy bullet. If that is all you have, load Clays powder down till you just get reliable function. That will give you the least recoil with the heavier bullets.
