A pause for the COZ

Still working at dialing this thing in. I had read a couple people comment about the twist rate on this Rossi being to slow to stabilize heavy Bullets.
I guess I am kinda finding that true.

I cant get 180 gr to shoot no matter what I push them with.

158 gr. I can get a pretty good load at 50 yards, as long as I dont get the speed to high. Best of that group is a 38 special load ahead of 6 gr Herco. That one gets out there about 1300 fps or 5 gr of Unique will do ok at about 1200 fps. Both those loads are running about the same pressure.
357 7gr Herco or 6 gr Unique shoot similar but a little wider, 1400 fps range.

When I get those out to 100 yards its just not acceptable. Maybe grouping 6 inch with some fliers.

I mean I have loads that I can shoot, but it feels like its shooting out side its comfort zone.
Looking for what it really wants.
Any ideas?

I have been shooting alot of Lyman 358429 ahead of 13.5 grains of 2400 in my Puma 92. I load them in 38 cases. They are way too long in 357 cases and tie up the gun good. But since I started using that load in 38 cases, I have shot nothing else.

I would not shoot this in any other gun without working up first.

Yes thats what I am running too. The interesting thing that I found was the difference I got between Lyman 358156 GC with 7 gr of Herco and also 6 gr Unique.

Compared to using the LEE 158 gr RNFP with the same powders.

Interesting though when I tried the Lyman 358156 GC ahead of 2400 and gave her the groceries up to 1700 fps that boolet tightened up its group.

I am just curious to try some 105gr and 125 gr cast out of it to see what happens.

i have never tried either my 125 gr mold or my 180 in the levergun.
i tried the lyman and herco load and just stayed there.
i never even tried my rcbs 158 rnfp mold i just sold it off.
it might just be this rifles thing.
from what i have seen the lee and the lyman look pretty similar in shape and such, could just be a throat thing.
my revolvers shoot the load okay too but they prefer the 358477 and i have a 4 cav for that so i don't mind.
except the rifle won't feed the 477.

Wow. The Rossi I had loved both the Lyman and the RCBS SWC's with heavy 296 or light weight Reddot and AL-5 loads.

I use the Lee 158RNFP over 7.0 grs Unique in .357 cases, or the Lee 158SWCGC over 14.0 grs of 2400. Both shoot into 1.5-2.5" at 100 when I do my part, and can be counted on to do 4" on a bad day, but they will give two very distinct groups if you mix both in the magazine.
