While waiting for an approval from the government of my purchase of Ruger Redhawk stainless with 7.5" barrel, I tried to fill the time with making an improvised swaging die for flat and hollow point bullets.
This is what it looks like and the finished product.
The cavity was made with a tree-shaped round-nose carbide burr for $20 from eBay.
Swaging is performed by pressing a case into the die with a vise using a piece of stock as a limiter, then filling the formed case with molten lead.
This produces 235gn hollow points and 240gn flat points.
I tried to make hollow points in the die, but found that it's much easier outside of the die while lead is still molten.
It took me exactly 2 hours on a mini lathe to produce this rough tool sample.
