I'm working on building a bullet collator and case collator. Been looking around for a motor and found an ice cream maker motor. You know the kind that you fill a metal can with your ice cream mixture then put it in a bucket with rock salt and ice. Has anybody made one using this kind of motor? I haven't looked at it close enough to see what the RPMs are on it but I seems ice cream makers turn pretty slow.

I can get you a dc motor with a 144:1 gearhead, .3125 shaft. With the DC you can adjust your speed to what you want by changing the voltage.
I don't remember what the power rating is but it's less than 50 watts I think.

What does the motor cost?

I was looking at some motors on ebay that had a 5-6 rpm but I wasn't sure if they had enough torque to turn the plate when I added bullets. I guess that would be my next question. For those that have done this what is the necessary torque the motor must have to get it to function reliably?

It is out of a microwave oven. You can get them for free.
It takes about a minute to get one from an oven.
Low power, low reliability but very cheap.

Thanks to 375ruger for the motors my project has finally started. worked on the sorting plate today. I think this will be the most time consuming. I'm doing this with a dremil, hand drill and jig saw so it's not going to go fast.

Here are some pics of the sorting plate.
Piece of plexiglass from a printer stand.
