W231 in Nagant Revolver

I've been working on loading ammo for my 7.62 Nagant revolver this evening.

I'm using Lee dies and new 32-20 Starline brass with 98 grain hard cast SWC boolits. My COL is 1.455".

As there is no published load data I've found some load info used by other handloaders.

Most of the loads make sense to me given the boolit weight and powder weight.

Here's where I'm concerned. I'm testing two loads.

First load is 3 grains of Red-Dot. I've seen others here mention using up to 3.5 of Red-Dot. I'll be working that up.

Second load. 3 grains of W231 as a starting load. When I look into the case the w231 barely eats up any of the case volume. What I am worried about is detonation.

I've read a couple of articles on the subject and the camp is split between one side that says that's dangerous. Others say fahgeddaboutit and shoot. Nothing to fear.

I'm not worried about the Red-Dot. I use it in rifles all the time as a reduced load.

So those of you using W231 in cases like the Nagant or .32 SW long etc. Are you adding any filler?

LOTS of WW-231 usage over the years, and NEVER a problem in about a dozen pistol and revolver calibers--including the 7.62 x 38R Nagant. 3.0 grains in the full-length Starline cases, flush-fit to the case mouth with Lee 100 RN, and my 1916 Tula shoots pretty close to the sights at 25-35 yards.

After looking at some load data for similar sized cartridges I see similar charges of W231 with no mention of filler. Hopefully I'll be able to report my results in the next week or so.

I've had good luck with 3.6 gr Trail Boss and a 100gr RNFP projectile. I load it as a conventional cartridge with Starline .32-20 brass. 1.513 OAL. Trail Boss is a "fluffy" powder and fills the case nicely.
