Here's my sad tale. After scrimping and saving, I've finally got enough $$ together to seriiously consider purchasing one of these new 1911's. The problem seems to be no one seems to be able to get one (at least here in KY). My local emporiums keep telling me "Good Luck" and that they have waiting lists as long as your arm and that Ruger is only producing about 59 or 60 of them a day and that they aren't taking any more orders from dealers as they are some 15,000 units behind already.
So my question is: Am I the only one having trouble getting an SR 1911? Inquiring minds want to know.
TIA, Stan :-(

nope, you aren't the only one. Few and far between. Been on a list for 3 months and I will bet it will be August before I see it.

That seems to jibe with what I'm getting for info around here. I think I would be happy if I could get one by then. In the mean time those Lipsey Flattops are staarting to look poretty nice-especially the 5 1/2" .45 convertables!

Kimber makes some nice 1911's and you can find them.

Soooo, upon Ruger's SR1911 press release, I immediately got on two waiting lists. One required a downpayment, the other didn't. The free one came in first (in two weeks). I put 1000 rounds down the pipe and sold it immediately. I was afraid the downpayment-one would come in at the same time. Long story short, I loved my SR1911, and I waited over a year for the other one to come in! Apparently they're in HIGH demand.

My 2nd came in last week, and it's now wearing a nice pair of VZ grips. I swear it's better than the first! The bore is notably more polished (the first showed rough drilling marks). The rest is every bit as beautiful. I've recieved compliments everytime it's been viewed.

... and it loves the MP H&G 68 clone.

Ordered one May 2011 and got it October 2011, couldn't be happier, very nice weapon and
priced for the average Joe! By the way I need to mention $710 out-the-door.

Matt 25: I checked those on Gun Broker and I guess I'll wait until my local toy store comes up with one. However thx for the info.
Bradh: Thx for the info.

My brother has one, but he hangs out on the Ruger forum, which helps.

He traded a S&W 1911 for it. He said that was the best way of accurizing the S&W.

The Ruger shoots as well as the Rock Island Armory owned by my nephew, which is pretty well.

I contacted Ruger about making a unit commemorative for us, and the gentleman I spoke to told me it would be a VERY long time for them to get to it as production was VERY far behind.

If you have a cabelas nearby that's a good route as they are a large distributor, I got on their list and had a call that it was in about 2 weeks later. Upside was that I'd bought one from a private party 2 days after getting on the list. Check the Internet for a local firearms trade site, the Craigslist for guns type. Put up a WTB ad and cross your fingers, it worked for me! I know I got lucky but I had an email not ten minutes after I posted the ad. Worth a try if you have a local area site.

i have to ask why. Some guys think that ruger is some premium name. Put ruger on about anything and guys stand in line for them. I could never figure why. I probably had more trouble with rugers through the years then about any other brand. could be because ive owned more rugers then about anything but still, truth be told, theres sure nothing specail about a ruger. Ive handled two of them and shot one of those two. It was an ok 1911 but nothing to write home about. Personaly if it were my money id rather have a kimber or colt. Again im not trying to be sarcastic. If its what you want go for it. Its surely not junk but it surely isnt a gold match or national match

Can you get a new kimber or colt for $700? National match?

you can sure get an entry level kimber or springfield for that. Or an sti spartan. All good guns.

And for what it's worth, you CAN get a kimber for $700 msrp but only a gun with that name on it, not an all stainless 5" 1911. And springfield triggers always felt gritty to me, but then again I've only had opportunity to handle the models that go for less than $800. Just my .02 but I guess I proved where I stand by buying one lol :guntootsmiley:
