I finally got around to sending the camera down the bore of the Winchester 1873 I pick up on Friday. Someone needs a good talking to about bore maintenance!!!

I'll post up some pictures of a good barrel so you can compare.

These pictures were taken with a $34 bore scope a few of us gun nuts bought on Ebay from Hong Kong. For the $$, it works pretty good....

Man, that makes my teeth itch looking at that...hope your the patient sort!

Borecopes are a blessing and a curse eh?

And Here is a 1871 Pedersoli Remington Rolling Block in 45-70 (Manufactured in 1971) Lots of Black Powder, over 600 rounds, cleaned religiously after each outing.

You can see the burrs on the edge of the rifling of the 1871 Pedersoli Remington Rolling Block in 45-70.

That looks like it would improve with fire lapping.

Yup, I saw those burrs, but the rifle shoots so good I don't want to mess with it. I'm more concerned with the start of a little "cracking" in the throat area.

I would fire lap it but use 800 as the courses grit and make sure it is a non embeding or non charging compound.

What I did last time i hade to fire lap is I coated a patch with compound to coat the bore as well as putting it in the grease grooves.
