I’d like to shoot NRA Hunter Class Silhouettes & USRA-IR50/50 Sporter Class with the same rifle. I’m ready for retirement & the expense of driving to matches will be enough as I have neither in town. So maybe one rifle with which to begin & learn. Anyone do this? Suggestions? Thanks guys.

I can & will use a scope. The weight limit for USRA-IR50/50 Sporter Class is 7.5 pounds. Is is why I asked. Thanks.

I asked a friend of mine who shoots silhouette quite a bit. Here's what he said.

I do not have any experience with the benchrest side of this question. My suggestion is to research what equipment is winning. For the silhouette equipment, entry level begins with the CZ http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/455-american/ and the top end is a Anschutz 1712 http://www.iss-internationalshootersservice.com/pdf/060109ansocsporters.pdf

Thanks crabo. The difference in weight limits for each game is a bit. The bench rest limit is a pound under the silhouette limit so one rifle won't be ideal for both. Plus under the bench rules the stock must be wood. Still I'd like to start with only one rifle. BTW the links are great.

I do look there a bit but I couldn't decide on which forum to ask this so I came here among friends first.

I am shooting an old Marlin Deluxe model 80 I have two of them one Marlin marked one made for Sears, Sears marked. Both shoot excellent and are reasonable priced guns used I paid 130 for the Sears and a friend sold me the one I am using for Silhouette for 50 bucks because he wanted me to start shooting with him. My Marlin 80 has a Tasco 10x40 target scope on it and weighs in right at 7.5 pounds. A lighter scope would put it under 7.5 pounds easy. OK I weighed the Sears one and it comes in at 6.5 pounds with a Bushnell 22 scope on it and that has a one inch tube. So depending on the scope either would be ok on the weight restrictions.
