Typically, what is the as-cast diameter of Ranch Dog C311-170-RF in WW metal?
What level of precision can I expect in terms of roundness?
This one looks like it might work in my '06 and I like the idea of shortening my casting time with the 6-banger mold (I dunno, perhaps I'll just make more rejects).
Also wondering if anyone has shot a bigger varmint with it yet. Does it hammer 50 pound critters?
Thanks,
MJ

I've drilled a hole in a 2x4 - 4" direction with it @ 50, #2/Pb AC, drops .313-.312. Mid-range load in 30-30. My guess you'd have to size it a little for 06. I got mine done in 3x3 but don't have a good load for the PB yet. I don't hunt but expect you would de-bone a 50# critter with a shoulder shot. I want to try in my 308, GC, I think others have tried in 308 and 06.

popper,
Thanks for the input.

Nope, my '06 likes .311-inchers... as many do because of throat configuration.

I almost bought one today but I'd like to get some input regarding others' accuracy results.
Thanks,

Look at my target post under the lube thread. Both are Rd CB's @ 50 ( 1 is 7 gr more powder, both GC'd), I have another pic in a post @ 100. 30-30 336 MG.

Can't find it... how 'bout a link?

\lubes\think I found a good one\#36 I was shooting a pretty stout load and basically wasn't doing too good(7 gr powder diff). 1 is 20 rnds bought RD, the other is mine. Both GC.

I use the RD 170 in my 30-06 and a 30-30 with decent accuracy. I haven't done much work on it but at around 1900 fps I get 2" and under at 100 yd. All the game shots I get are under 100 yd. so that was good-nuff for my purposes and I quit experimenting.

Accuracy is heavily dependent on fit/alloy and rifle condition; however, I'm wondering about the nose design on c311-170. It looks like c311-170 might be a good fit for my M70 based on RD's drawing but I don't understand why he put tight little radii on each side of the meplat. Seems like sharp corners, as c323-170, would make a better deer boolit. The nose on RD's 311-170 is also longer than c323-170, which will effect stability at longer ranges. I'll keep looking for input on terminal performance.
Thanks,
MJ
