what bullet and load would be possibly most accurate for 100 yard steel plate shooting in a 357 or 357 max,not looking for speed for accuracy to bag the plates, thanks in advancefor all replys[smilie=2:

My recomendation would be the RCBS 35-200gr fngc for single shot pistols or the FA revolver probley the most accurate cast 35 cal bullet from 50 to 200 yards .
These bullets would be my secondary choices for revolvers or SS
180 gr tc from Saeco# 399 or RCBS 357-180 sil or a Saeco #354 180 gr fpgc if COL is a issue.
Ive had great results with the RCBS 35-200 in a RPM-XL 12.0 gr WW surplus 820 @1250 fps , not a max load, but very accurate, ive shot 1 inchers at 100 yards but a 25 shot average at 100 is about 2 inches from the bench with a scope which is repeateable accuracy! I used this load for over 15 years and have done very well with it in matches.

Dave-

Howdy !

I DK the mold number off hand, but Lyman's .357" cal mold listed as a nominal
172gr oughta' work, over 14.5gr WW296 ( or H-100... same thing ); and SP Mag primer. Dependent on the alloys, 172gr is not far off the 180gr wt you mention.

This powder/charge worked great with Lyman ( and other ) PB SWCs that I have shot; in the range of bullet weights quoted above.

Super-accurate out of a 6" M-28, 5" M-27, and two custom 4" "N"-frames.
This load also shotd well in my Marlin M1894SC.

I'm talkin' use of .357Mag brass, and nose of the SWCs seated to "N"-frame cylinder-compatible cartridge OALs. Use a decent crimp, too.

Best of luck in your endeavors !

That kinda depends on what gun you are using. Revolver? Contender? Lever gun? All will do their best with different boolits.

My hero group with my 15.75 MGM Contender in 357 Max is a 180 Saeco SIL over 1680. 2000fps and a sub ½ in group.

With all that being said, if I don’t get the accuracy I want out of my 190RD I will be buying the Saeco mold. I just got my 359 sizer in last week… we’ll see how things go… LOL

RCBS 180-SIL over 20.0 296. I've used it for over 25 years in sillywett competition and to shoot hogs.

My light .357 Mag load is 7.0grs Unique pushing a Lee 158gr RNFP. I use it in revolvers, leveractions, and a 10" contender. It has also worked well on the only deer I have taken with it out of a 4" revolver. The other load I use is 14.0 grs 2400 pushing a Lee 158 SWCGC, also used out of all the same guns. Both are accurate in my guns, 1.5-2.5" groups out of the rifles @100yds with open sights when I do my part, but no not hit the same POA as each other. I don't have a MAX so cant speak for those loads.
