I now have new brass and new dies for the old Win. 1894 32-40, some reloads from one of the members should show up by UPS Mon or Tues., I'll see how those print and pick a boolit weight from there. I am thinking from what I read here probably 170 - 185 grain cast BOOLIT. Hope it doesn't rain all next week.
Thanks for all the info, oldwood1

I use the RCBS 32-170 in my Marlin 32-40. Works fine.

I got tired of looking around for a .32-40 and had one made on a 336 Marlin.

You can use either reformed .30/30 cases or buy the new stuff. Some of the new stuff that I got was old stock and I got some neck splits after a couple of firings. Anealing took care of that.

I beleive the 319295 Lyman was the factory clone for the .32-40 and mine weighs 171 grains. I've shot a lot of 319297/HPs in mine as well as RCBS 32-170-FN bullets. All do well.

I'm sizing mine at .321" and they do fine.

It's not picky for powder and i'm poking along at around 1600 FPS or so as I'm just punching paper.

Picked up a .32 Special RCBS neck size die one time out of a junk box cheap and it works well for neck sizing.

I went to .30/30 cast starting loads for mine when I started and worked up and had no problems.

Kinda neat to shoot an old lever caliber like the .32-40 and with a little tweaking of my loads, there's plenty of omph for deer./beagle

BTW, a friend from VT sent me some really old vintage .32-40 cases he picked up at a gun show up your way. I had to aneal them but there were some really interesting headstamps in that batch of slightly less than 50. Some Dominion and some high speed .32-40s and some Peters. Evidently Winchester or Remington (I forget which) made a run of High Speed loads at one time.

Keep your eyes on the junk boxes at gun shows up there./beagle
