I think you'll really enjoy the 550b, I know I have. It's my first and only progressive press and will spit out some quality ammo in a short amount of time. Just take your time setting it up and get familiar with each step of the process and you'll have a great press for a life time. / Rockchucker

Make sure you download the manual from the Dillon site, if it does not come with the 550. Lots of good info there. I have two.... one for large and one for small primers. It helps speed things up a bit more. Could not do without them...

Congratulations! I have two 550's also, one for large and one for small primers. I've owned a couple "faster" progressive presses but have found them to not be as fast as some may think because they tend have some quirks that require time and farting around. I always come back to the 550 because it's more my speed and IMHO less quirky! Kind of the tortoise and the hare scenario! You'll love it I'm sure.

If going from a single stage press to the dillon i would recommend putting just one case through the fully loaded cycle each time for a short while until you get used to the operation of the press.

+1 to this, lots to keep an eye on when doing so many operations at once.

Its a wise choice for this level of machine. Don't get dizzy and move up to a 650 like I did and find out the production of the 550 was really all I ever needed. Blue Fever can get you.

Another thing: eventually you'll have multiple die head plates for various calibers and won't want to tear down and re install the Dillon measure all the time. I have used Lee Pro measures on die head plates with same performance as the more expensive Dillon measures. Works fine and cuts your expenses without sacrificing efficiency.

Now the bad part:

After you use it for a day, you will keep kicking yourself for at least a week for not getting one a lot sooner!

You are going to love it. Once set up and properly fiddled with, it will run and run and run. There are many other viable press systems but the 550 style platform is just so reliable and easy to learn. Enjoy it.

Extra bins are handy. I usually don't go accessories crazy but the little blue stands for the caliber conversions are great. FB
