spencer carbine trigger

i have a spencer carbine (reproduction), the trigger is so heavy i think you could hang the gun on it without setting it off. sometimes i check to see if i actually have the hammer back.
is it a difficult job to do, or is it an experienced gunsmith job to reduce the pull weight?
