Put together this short video of me at the range shooting my Savage 340 in 30-30 at 200 yards. Watch it in HD.:lovebooli

The really cool part, that made me spend the time making a video, is the "trails" that the bullets leave as the remaining bullet lube gets slung off the bullet in flight. I was never aware how visible it was until I actually videoed myself shooting it.

Hope you all enjoy it. I thought we had a dedicated video section here, but I can't find it.

That was really cool. And thanks for making me want one of these even more.

Cool, I have never noticed that much of a smoke trail, what lube?

Johnson's Paste Wax with a little Vaseline and Alox mixed in.

Neat vid, thanks for sharing. I noticed how the smoke stopped in a ring about halfway to the target on some, and on others was just a streak that faded to a taper. I wonder if those were going subsonic at the point that the "smoke ring" appeared.

I doubt it. My guess is that there was lube in one of the grooves that suddenly all slung out at once. MV is about 1800 fps so they were supersonic all the way.

Very nice. Picked up a 340 in 30-30 a couple years ago for my daughter , she loves it. Great old rifles. I have since acquired one in 223 and another in 22 Hornet. All three are shooters! Going to have to get another 30-30 for me someday because my little girl is growing up...

It's 400 yards too far East.

I also have a Rem 788 in 30-30. Use lee 150 gr. ww gc and Unique 10.5 gr. powder, and lee liquid alox. Cheap ammo to plink the 200 yd. gong. My favorite plinking rifle. :Fire: The 30-30 with bolt action is a sleeper. [smilie=s: greg

I notice snow on the ground. I wonder if the 'smoke' is a vapour trail. I have seen it on with a .22-250 before.

Loved the video....what kind of group were you getting at 100 yards? Most folks think the Savage 340 is a little "homely" but yours is a fine lookin rifle!
