Thought this might be an easy way to effectively clean oil and rust off small sensitive gun parts, turned out to work pretty darned good! Let me know what you think, try it yourself and see how it works out for you.

You fooled med with thw rice part :-)
Use mashine dishwashing detergent, its caustic and cuts old crud way better. I do that in my ultrasonic cleaner and it comes out clean to the bone.

I used dish soap, but I can definitely give detergent a shot the next time I run stuff through, the trick will be getting the right amount.

Trisodium Phosphate, which is harder to get now. Paint section of good hardware stores is the best chance. TSP used to be the main ingredient in dishwasher soap. The EPA banned it, which is why dishwashers don't get the dishes clean anymore.

Half Simple Green and half water ina pan on the stove. Don't boil just nearly. Mr. Dunlap got me to using that.
