I'm experimenting with paper patching (smokeless). I've got a few hundred booits here but they are all lubed. My understanding is that you don't want lube under the patch or it can make the boolit stick.

I've dropped a few in hot water and melted it off, is there another method?

The water removal method seems to do the best job of removing the hardened lube. I suppose you could try the bullets standing on a cookie sheet in an oven adjusting the heat slowly up till the lube melts. The bullets would still have to be wiped clean after the lube has melted. What caliber bullets are we talking about here? How much larger are you wanting to patch these bullets, can`t you find any unlubed bullets?Robert

I'm experimenting with paper patching 45-70s. I can buy more boolits, but I've probably got 700 or so here now though the PITA factor may send me shopping.

Leave the lube on till after you size them to .4515/.452. Makes them easier to re-size. Boil in water, let cool, remove the lube off the top of the water after it turns solid and reuse it.

Shoot ten of them and see how much it matters first.

FWIW depending on the type of lube,it might not float to the top.I tried it once and my God what a mess it made.I found the easies why for me was to just use my thumb nail while watching the tube..No need to ruch it..Good luck with it..And like it says above, try a few and see how it goes. You might not have to remove it...

I paper patched up some commercial bullets that were lubed.

Not all of the hard lube survived the sizing down process prior to patching, but the remaining lube did not hurt accuracy at all.

Thanks, this stuff is pretty hard, and it doesn't necessarily float either.

I'm going to try 10 with it in place and see how they fly

Lay them on paper towels and use a hair dryer.
