I recently picked up a Browning BLR in 358 Win. Have not had the time to load or shoot it yet. I'm thinking of this as a cast Boolit rifle only.

Anyone have starting data for 180 gr cast and Blue Dot?

TIA

I shoot a 358 with cast A LOT ! !

Here is the 358009 shot at 50 yards , 5 shots with 14.8 grs. 2400

But , I've got to ask why Blue Dot ?

I have 10+ pounds of it.

A Rule of Thumb for bottleneck rifle rounds is to fill a case with BlueDot and then weigh that amount. Use 40% of the weight as your Start load, and 60% as your Max. Use caution over 50% as pressures can mount quickly.

That works with most bullets of a nominal weight for that round.

krag35 :

The only reason I'm asking is Blue Dot can get a bit erratic sometimes.

I'm leary of it myself......

With that said, I hope you have very good luck with all 10 lbs. of it.

Best,

Ben

If you have Lyman 358156, try around 11 grains of Unique. I'm telling you that is the most fun load of any I've shot and they stay in small clusters at 100 yards. I shot some this morning in my M.70 and I'm still smiling!:-) My BLR likes 10 grains better.

I have had good luck with blue dot in my 375 H&H. I got the data from the lyman 3rd edition hand book. Not sure if they have the 358 in their or not.

is that FULL to the base of the seated boolit, or to the top of the neck?

Full means full, but you can use either. The base of neck version will give you lighter charges and would therefore be safer, of course.

thanks Rocky, I just didn't want to start too low, if that would produce a problem, using base of boolit vs. top of neck.

I have some blue dot, I was wondering what I'd get to shoot it in.

This thread got away from me, sorry about that. thank you for the information. I shot the BLR with some factory ammo i got with it today. It does not kick anything like it's reputation. Once sighted in, leaning against the pickup, hits on Post-it note papers were easy. It does heat up fast though. well off to cast up some Saeco #352
