Another mock up. What do you think of mesquite grips?

Not really my cup of tea but to each his own. Kinda plain and the grain pattern seams.......short?

Ditto. Factory walnut grips looks better IMO.

Lotsa variation in mesquite; I bet you could find some with figure, even marbling. Search for some screwbean mesquite.

I like them, but that could be cuz I am from texas. We have mesquite everywhere. Guess thats more sentimental than visual.

I like them.
I would like to be able to roll them around in the light some.
I would also like to see some samples with some stains.
Does Mesquite make burls?
We have a lot of Iron wood around here that makes for really nice looking carvings.
I do agree with the people that like a more rounded shape.

[I have a rifle stock made from mesquite that I did 40 years ago beautiful wood but wore out cutting tools like teak. I found it a bit hard to work but have never seen another. I like yours.

I've seen mesquite with some burled figure. If I could have found some I liked, my last Blackhawk would have been stocked with them. Very tough wood.

Not bad but would be nicer if you can find a chunk of burl in that wood.

I have a set of local Mesquite and a set of local Ironwood for my Bisley. May not be the 'prettiest' wood but they feel good and don't nick/scratch as easily as some other wood.

Figure and burl always look better :) bt are tough on the tools.

A friend brought me a bunch of the wood long ago. The stuff has gravel and stone all through it. I ruined many saw blades trying to cut it.

No different than walnut, There's plain walnut and then there's walnut with various types of enhanced grains.

I am a South Texas Brushpopper and think Texas Honey Mesquite is just the huckleberry for handgun grips. I have three sets on 1911s and another three on SA hanguns. Only way to go!

I made lots of mesquite furniture when I lived in Tucson. Most of the shop's wood came up from Mexico as the local trees were pretty small. There was some fantastic figure in that wood, more so than most other woods I've used. Not a whole lot of burl, but lots of curl and flame. Next time I'm in Tucson I'll see if I can scrounge you some if you like (drop me a PM).

Nice hard wood, should make a fantastic grip. I still have a couple chunks of ironwood burl that are going to be grips one day soon - still got to buy the gun they're going on

Your work looks great - just get some prices up on that webpage!:wink:
