I'm working on a trade for a .357 Max barrel for my Encore! I sold my Coyote Guns .357 Max barrel 2 years ago and have regretted it since...so I've been waiting to see a trade option for another custom .357 Max barrel. It's a 12" blued barrel built on a Shilen blank. Do any of you .357 Max nuts know if a 1-18" twist will stabilize the RD 359-190-RF or 358627? He's going to check the twist for me, but it's either a 1-14" or 1-18" according to the Shilen website. My guess is that it's the faster of the two, but I've been wrong before. I'll be trading a 6PPC Encore rifle barrel for the barrel and a pretty laminated stock set to go along with it. :drinks:

He doesn't know the maker who put the barrel together, but was told it was a custom maker in Texas? Any guesses here as to the maker?

Greenhill formula says the 358627 takes a 1-20" min. twist, RD a 1-21" min. twist, so 1-18" should do it. Shilen says the 1-14" is for low-velocity target guns shooting full wadcutters.

All I can contribute is that mine is a 1 in 16" and absolutly loves 180gr Beartooth boolits and my RD359190GC dip lubed with LLA per RD's technique. Still working on the plain based version altho it looks interesting with TB powder. It leaded my barrel ahead of a stiff load of A1680 which the GC version likes. Still learning. Goat

My former Max barrel was a 1-16" and shot well with every bullet I ran through it, cast and jacketed. The RD 190 and 358627 were hell on Iowa whitetails - I hope to introduce Minnesota whitetails to one of those boolits as well. :) Still have all of the powders, data, brass, dies, etc. so I'll be right back at it quickly with this barrel.

And the trade is said and done. We're both shipping out tomorrow.
