I have a couple 6.5 lee molds and would like to know if it's cost effective to have one milled down to end up with a 120-130 gr bullet from the 170gr?

How much would the bullet need to be shortened? How much would be left of the top surface?

Just running some numbers based on pure lead, it looks like the bullet would have to br shortened by .254" to .317" to lose 40 to 50 grs of weight. I don't think the Lee's can take that much being milled off.

Any one, please feel free to double check calcs. I am using 711 lb/ft^3 for lead from memory, and I'm getting to the point where I can hide my wn Easter eggs, so if I'm wrong that's OK. I think I'm close.

I'm thinking of casting and cutting boolit for a sample to see how much it weighs.I might be hoping for to much but right now custom mold isn't in the budget.I have 6.5s in JDJ,bullberry and tcu they seem to like 100gr-130grjacketedthe best.

...............It's been done with the user afixing the GC at a lube groove. Apparently worked well but I sure down recall how much was removed or how they treated the pins/roller bearing needles Lee uses for attaching the handles.

That sounds like what I will need to do or save up the cash for one built to my specs. Thanks for the advice.
