I have been casting for about a month now and have had good results. I read the "sticky" on casting and all 50 of my first 50 boolits came out perfect. Then I bought another mold off the big E (Lyman 457122) and my casts out of it are measuring .456 as opposed to the .459 out of my other Lyman mold. I thought the 457122 must just be undersized so I ordered a new mold. Sure enough, it came with nthe same .456 measurment. Since my rifle (Browning 1885 45/70) has a slug size of .458 accuracy was not satisfactory. I am looking for a mold in the 300 to 330 grain size that will give me boolits that will measure at least .459. I am not looking for a gas check design as I will be shooting at less than 1500 fps. Any help on a mold that won't break the bank will be appreciated. By the way, this is a great site-I have gotten more good information off this site than any of the others I have visited.

You can beagle that mold and get you to 458 pretty easy IMO

I have one of those 457132s that was made in 2009 and I didn't bother casting with it because it's way undersized and the cavities are offset. Poor Lyman quality control, but you can fix it if you want to spend the time. The mould was never intended to cast .458-9", so it's up to you to make it that way if you want. Lots of casting laps, lapping with abrasive compound, cleaning, casting more laps, lapping, etc.

2 thousandth's is easily doable, 3 is possible, more is gonna start making square things round in the mold.

I am with Gear. Too many undersize molds from Lyman and RCBS.
I have the Browning too and it is a pain with the shallow grooves. I think .460" is the start and I have made molds to .464".
When Ray Pine made molds, Rapine, you could get molds in different sizes.
I am sure some of the great mold makers here can make what you want.
