I aquired a Lyman 311466 mold and can find nothing on the lyman site about it.
It 30 cal , RN , GC 152 grain..
Was hoping to use it in a .308 I have but can find no info on it other than stated.

Also got a 311359 115 grain M1 carbine mold.
Looks like it might be the boolit for my 7.5x51 Carcano.

Would appreciate any info anyone has

Lyman's 3rd edition Cast Bullet Handbook has the 311466 listed.

This was a popular design that was part of the series; 311465, 311466, 311467..all Loverin designs featuring a roundy-pointy nose and multiple bands & lube grooves. The Lyman cast bullet books and manuals carried data for it for a number of years. It was listed by Col. Harrison in his writngs for the NRA Loading Handbook for the 06 cartridge, but will work in other 30 cals such as the 30-40 Krag and others. It would work well in a 308. Some folks complained that it was difficult to cast because of he multiple bands etc and that it would pick up lint if carried in pockets; I don't see either as being a problem. It could shoot with good accuracy when properly loaded. It used a gas check. As a vintage mold then it probably casts at the right size. LLS

i'd make a few up and see how the nose and such measures out.
and how it fit's in a dummy round.
it all is well, i'd use data for it from the #3 lyman or data for 311284.
or just put 17 grs of 2400 behind it and shoot it, unless it falls in the case.

i have a k-89/11 that seats the boolits into the case below the neck, but with 16 grs of 2400 will shoot some amazingly small groups at 50 and 100 yds with the open sights.
i let the seating take place when i close the action.

An excellent Lovern design that works very well, especially for HV loads. I shoot it a lot as I have 2 moulds; the double cavity 311466 drops the bullets at .3135 when cast of 80-20 lino-lead. The 4 cavity 311466U drops them right at .3115 with the same alloy. For use in the .308W I size the first 1 1/2 drive bands at .300 and the rest at .311 with both bullets. This lets me seat the bullet with the GC still in the neck and the 2nd drive band just touching the leade.

I also use the 311466U in the '06 and in my TC Contender carbine barrel in 30-30. The 311466 sized at .314 or .312 is great in all my .31 cal rifles (.303, 7.65 Argentine and 7.62x54Rs. Also in 7.62x39s)

A very good bullet, excellent and one of the best actually.

I don't know about the other 2 but 311467 has quite a taper on it and allows it to be seated way out if your mag. will except it, kinda makes lubing a pain, and the bullet prolly shouldn't be breechseated because it is gas checked.

I have 2 sc molds and it is one of the few designs I don't mind casting with a single cavity dur to the results I get. I would not hesitate to use any 170 gr load data starting loads substituting the 466.

I've got a SC 311466 that drops at 162 gr from my favorite HV alloy (4 parts Lyman #2 to 1 part Lino). Best boolit I've found, so far, for my Savage 340 (.30-30) and second choice, for accuracy, in my sporter Krag. Lee's 'Modern Reloading' has comprehensive data for 150-170 gr. boolits in .30-30, .308, and .30-06 and sufficient CB data for most other calibers to allow interpolation for starting loads.

7.5 x 51 Caracano the same as 7.35 carcano? I'm not familiar with the former, only the later.

One of the most accurate 30cals I have. Wish there were more Loverin style molds around. They are about perfect for sizing down and patching back up for my 30-30, 308 30-06 300RUM and my 303 SMLE.

I use all three .30 Loverins, 311465, 466 and 467. They are extremely useful and flexible in my experience.

For data on 466 in the .308, see my M1A thread on the "CB Loads- Military Rifles" forum.

When dealing with cast bullets, it's NOT NECESSARY to have data for the precise type you have. In your case with the 466, data for ANY nominally150-grain .30 bullet can be used...just start low (as usual) and work up. Actually, I've found this to be true with jacketed bullets as well. Starting low "cushions" us sufficiently to allow load development without difficulty or danger.

311466 is an excellent design, and you are starting with one of the best.

This is a favorite of mine. I have an older Lyman 2 cavity and recently (last fall) got a 4 cavity NOE. Between the 2, I have cast literally thousands of them. Over 17.5 grains of 2400, this has been a great midrange load in my 30-30"s. I have also used them in my 30-06 and in my 30-40. 30 grains of WW-748 shot well with this boolit in a friend's Savage 308. I have not tried to run this boolit fast, but it can carry plenty of lube, should you be of a mind to do so. It's a goodie.

...........All samee-samee. Simply the 6.5x52 opened up to 7.35 (.300") so the case ends up a silly mm shorter :-)
