Do you think any of these might work as a measure tube for a B&M measure ?

see: http://www.possibleshop.com/s-s-powder-measure.html

The B&M drop tube is .502 inch in diameter.

Hi Mike... do you need a tube, or is this an idea for an upgrade? Drop me an e-mail at my regular address < gfrog53 AT yahoo DOT com > and I'll show you a much more elegant and effective strategy for getting the most out of your B&M Visible Loader.

I had a machinist friend make one with a 10/32 all thread rod, a 45/70 shell with the primer drilled and threaded, and he made a thin plate that attached to the rod. A nut as a stop and something to grab ahold of at the bottom and there is a tube that is more sensitive than the ones made with a 24 thread. Fits the measure perfectly. Another friend is making me a couple using 45/110 cases.

I use one that looks very much like the second one on the page.

I have dealt with "The Possibles Shop" in the past and they are very helpful,

I bet if you were to call them they would actually measure one for you.

Hope this helps

milprileb,
Definitley not. Although the 11-02-120 fits perfectly after a few twists with emery cloth, the tube wall thickness is way too thin. The B&M requires a .500 diameter drop tube with a .400 inside diameter in order for the visible secondary hopper to shear the charge accurately.
Sure you can use a 45/70 case or a 11-02-120 when using black powder because who cares if your 4 or 5 grains off...but when your loading for accuracy (without trickling each charge) you need a drop tube with the correct inside diameter.
Ebay sells originals and aftermarkets every week. I bought one of the extra long aftermarket drop tubes for burning charcoal and it works perfectly but I've never used it once. I've tested it.... but who takes a powder measure to an offhand match or turkey shoot.
For a lousy 10 bucks more, buy a drop tube with the correct tolerances so you avoid trickling in all but the most competitive target work.

Mr. Chambers, I will track on Ebay and see if I can find one for sale per your recommendations.

Just checked: zero for sale. Guess this is going to be a very intense search !

Thank you

I watched ebay for Belding and Mull measures and charge tubes for over a month.
They are plentiful and I have seen as many as six on sale at one time.
Don't get antsy and you can get some great deals.

The inside diameter of my original tube is .375" not .400"

I have 5or 6 b&m tubes all are .375 inside. Have made 8 or 10 more out of
1/2" brass rod bored out to .375.

I made a couple more tubes today. I also greatly improved the first model after pulling 50 finished .45acps. because of like 1/4 powder in em  Version #2 still isnt like the B+M tube because it now is not fully adjustable. It only has a couple settings, but will not move like the original, which I don't like much. The machine, however, I love  Should I go into production?

I was trying to give milprelib the sound advice that the black powder drop tube wall is too thin...now that I've posted the mininum wall thickness (.050) others are suggesting that .0625 (1/2 of .500 minus .375) is not correct...since when is .0625 less than .050 ?????

Adding, subtracting, and dividing decimals is 5th grade math ...people who reload should at least be able to understand the simple math involved.

the advice I gave milprileb still stands...I have over 20 B&M drop tubes...they vary from .375 - .400...I was trying to give the MINIMAL wall thickness of .050...hey M-tecs and bigbore50, please measure the wall thickness on your drop tube and post it here so that everyone can review your math skills.

Wow somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed!!!! How does me stating that the my drop tubes having a 0.375 ID make your post incorrect? In fact it supports YOUR claim that B&M did not use drop tubes with thin walls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:groner:

You have eight of these? Outstanding !! :D

I like the tubes and was wondering if you made a lot of these and how many came from B+M ? I would guess that they are load specific ? I have only one and its the micrometer model and I only see one in your pic. Oh, do you collect coins?

Watch ebay.

I have seen them sell for less than $20 then I have seen the older ones sell to Wacky collectors for WAY more than their widows or kids will eventually sell them for.

I have a custom made tube that was made around Newark, Ohio, got it at the now gone J. Cunard gunshop (the owner Joe Hepsworth was big into international single shot shooting before he passed away),

The I.D. is 445, the wall thickness is .028. I have loaded thousands of BPCR cartridges, from 38-55 to 45-110 with this. It was made so loads of well over 100 gr of 1F can be dropped, I use 108 gr max in one of my loads.

Granted I beamscale weigh each and every charge, BUT it drops within a tenth or so OR RIGHT on, each and every time. It has worked with both B&M's I have and I will double check it on the one I picked up today (I get them, clean them up, polish the brass and pass them on to friends).

Saying they have to have that ID to work correctly is erroneous, at least as regarding using them to load blackpowder. Smokeless could be an entirely different issue. But after having dropped thousands of charges and weighed each one, I know it works and is repeatable.

I bought one of the powder measures that look just like the Belding and mull measures that cost a near fortune then threaded the shaft and screwed on a couple of stainless 5/16" half nuts.
Total price for a micro adjust drop tube,,, less than $14.

These tubes can easily be made with off the shelf materials. Hobby store brass tubing in 1/2" od ( will need to be polished down a few thousandths to fit) A piece of tubing to fit in it lisght snug fit ( again may fit and slide may beed to be polished slightly) a piece of 7/16 fine threaded rod and nuts, last is a 1/2" stop collar. Cut 1/2" tubing with pipe cutter 4--6" in length depending on charges you want to drop. Cut 2 pieces of the tube that fits inside 3/4-1" long and remove all burrs from tubes. with the JB weld epoxy glue one tube into 1/2" tube flush with one end. Also glue stop collar onto same end leaving a bare spot under set screw, Glue other 1" tube to end of 7/16 threaded rod. When cured file a flat on the exposed threaded rod removing threads and about an 1/8" flat for screw to bear. File top of rod flat to brass tubing . Remove burrs, polish to slide smoothly and assemble.
