It is a non-standard oddball thread, gives everyone a problem because you cannot
buy a die or tap for it.

Here at MSC they are a lot less expensive. I believe I got mine from MSC because I did not pay almost $70. If I remember it was around $25, but it was a couple of years a go.

Now that's what a good thread is all about. A die-hard tool. :-P

that $7.00 die is unmarked as to manufacturer, that is not a good thing.

You get what you pay for. You buy a tap for $25 and you have a good one. You buy junk for $7 and you have junk.

Good news on finding this oddball thread tap and dies available. When I looked several
years ago, I couldn't find any.
Even a "junk" one is likely to cut at least two or three good parts if the steel isn't too hard,
and for the guy that will only do 2 or 3 in a lifetime, a bargain.
For a professional shop, worthless. Consider the application.
Bill
Yes, but cheap junk that is capable of threading a few Star extractors/punches out of mild steel ! :) It is a die that is VERY job specific and may be used for one day only in its entire life
