So I got in touch with an indoor range and I will be getting lead (and copper jackets) for .10/#!
I picked up about 1400# already and have another 1500 or so to go. Plus, I will be clearing the range out every three months. I am pretty pumped. I don't know that I would ever go through that much lead but I couldn't pass up this deal.

If only a guy knew where there was a bunch of other guys who would buy lead at a reasonable price...[smilie=1:

Seriously though, congratulations! I am always glad to hear of a forum member having something fall their way. Moving that much lead, remember to lift with your legs and don't overdo it.

Seriously.........consider getting one of those smaller hand trucks from Harbor Freight. It would be a good investment and could really save your back!

Already have a hand truck and we only fill the buckets up to about 60 lbs to make it easy on us.
I will probably look into selling some in the next few weeks. Going to hopefully start processing it all Monday, from there ima set some aside for my stash and see what is left. I only cast 45 and 9 so I don't get through til much. Justike to keep a ton on hand all times just in case.

Hah, I just don't get used to this! Grown up men fighting over "toxic waste"! Pretty sure that the range owner is thinking: " What a fool! He is doing all the hard work and PAYING ME money for that waste!"

For those of you who recycle the jackets, what kind of places do you have the best luck with? I have called a few this morning and none buy jackets.

It would help if you filled out your location on your profile. If you are in my area-I can tell you the best place/price to sell.

I don't get why some yards don't buy the jackets. I get #2 copper price for them. Which is exactly what they are.

No idea why some will and some won't, but around here, we have won'ts.

Same here on jackets as above - get #2 copper price. Just have to run the magnet through and cull the steel jackets(seeing more of these lately)

I actually was able to find a recycler to buy them. He is going to pay 3.05/# for copper and ~2/# for the brass jackets.

It should all be copper, not brass. I don't know how you would separate it anyway.

I just brought mine to the recycling yard and told them it was copper. They took a look at it and didn't even ask what it was from. Over the phone, if you say "bullet" they might just try to get rid of you. However, in person they just look at what you've got in the bucket.

I picked up a pawltry 24# from local range as "test sample", I paid $18.
I got 20 pounds of lead alloy and 4# of "#2 copper" (jackets) that I took to recycling center= almost $12 cash back into my hand! Ended up paying $6 for that 20# of alloy and that's cool by me![smilie=1:

I have $310 invested into the material and I'm hoping to have enough copper to sell back and cover my costs as well as buy my dad a 357 golden boy Henry for helping me out.

Sounds like you did good! With the copper and brass, you ought be able to bring down costs a whole bunch, if not a profit. Way to go!
