I have a couple of old muskets I need help with identity, one is what I think is an old Austrian piece mdl 1851 about .69 or .70 cal. May have been used in the Civil War.
The second is in tough shape, lock parts missing, stock broken but has some interesting inlays. I will get some pictures and post if there is place for this.
Thank You, oldwood1

Also, where do I check for info on making patch lube? Thanks

Pm Mooseman or Steveb. Have pictures available. They can probably help. Or come into chat in the evenings between 5 and 9 or 10. (Have Pictures Available)

OBILL, couldn't get on "Chat Rm" think I have a firewall keeping me out. Will try to post pics here. Gun is 57 3/4" overall, barrel is 41 9/16" to breech plug, bore is about .67cal. smooth bore, # 851 I think on lock, if it's Austrian it would mean 1851.
# 5 on trigger guard and bands, also looks like proof mark on lock. I think it is to early to be a Lorenz, maybe a Augustin? Will try pics. Thanks oldwood

From the furniture, I believe you are right in thinking Austrian, maybe German. Lots of foreign guns came in during that period.

Moose Milk is about the best patch lube you can put together. One part water soluble oil, to 7-10 parts water. Ballistol will work for the oil.
