My welding supply co. has 50/50 sloder for $1. #, but its acid core.
Can I smelt this down, and just skim it(acid) off with saw dust to add to my alloy with out any problems?
Thanks

yes
but you can also just add it to the melt, and skim, as the acid core will flux.

also, you should buy a few thousand pounds and sell it on Ebay. routinely goes for $15.00/lb there

i wouldn't add it to my pot khack gaaagh.
i have melted down some acid core solder before.
i done it in a 4 lb pot with a 100' extension cord, and waited for the smoke to quit.
after the first time putting it in the pot in the shop.
it does flux the top of a pot pretty good or maybe it just looked like it through all the tears.

I've used it before. I would definitely cook it outside and downwind. It has very toxic fumes. But hey it works. I just used sawdust to clean it up. Worked out great.

I have used it to add tin to my mix, but you have to be carefull. Don't just drop it in, use a length of it and slowly stick it down into the melt. It will melt very fast, and it will sizzle as it is added. I have a fan blowing from the side and behind me to blow the fumes away and I do this outside. The acid fumes are toxic. It will only leave a little skimming to do. (Its a good source of tin.)

If it was me I would buy it all. The tin is worth 4 or 5 times the price.
