After they are cast you cut them in half. An eight cavity mold!!:bigsmyl2:

Well, I just checked the list of H&G moulds, and #508 ain't on it! But #507 IS on it, and here's what it says:

#507--.30 Caliber. 190 grains at 1.200" length. A very unique bullet. Both ends are the same--it could be described roughly as two #73 plain base pistol bullets with the bases glued together. "Meplat" at rear, then tapers to "semi-wadcutter" shoulder, then two square grease grooves, then semi-wadcutter shoulder then nose tapers to meplat. Made for Baden-Powell. March 8, 1943.

So chances are this mould was made for the same customer. I'm willing to bet that they were for casting with zinc, and then cutting them apart to make 2 boolits for each cavity. Or maybe they were using lead, it's kind of hard to know what went thru some peoples heads back then! Maybe after cutting them apart you would then put a gas check on the bases, and the check formed one side of the lube groove?

You can seat the boolit, and NOT be concerned if you put it in upside down?

I am not 100% certain but I came across this design during some research and at the moment I can't seem to find my notes.

But from memory, I remember that it was intended for .357 Maximum cartridges and the only moulds I had seen to date were stamped with an "S" for special order. This is for 508, not 507.

The 507 Baden Powell reference troubles me as Baden-Powell died in 1941.

When I have time to dig into my research I will see if I can update the Hensley & Gibbs factory ledger with any info I may have.

My dad and I had a standing joke about a Push-me-Pull-ya bullet.
Never did get a mould made for him.

Is the Group Buy now active ?? I will take a single cavity brass with hollow point on BOTH ends !
Please add four extra blank pins and instructions for pouring the HP bullets ! :) :)

I have loades lyman 158 gr swc gc bullets up side down and shot them as 38 spl wc and they shot good at 25 yrds. I would think this would also but can not see any reason for the bullet.

I bet this would make a great long range 35 cal rifle boolit. The design suggest extreme subsonic stability. Maybe a Whelen super slug??

I thought that too. But without more info on which Bqaden-Powell or if that date is the order date or production date...who knows if it was the Man Himself or not?

Boat tailed bullets have lower drag and work better at long ranges, but the
front shape is all wrong for low drag. Can't really improve the long range
ballistics significantly IMO.

I would think maybe for an automated loading system to eliminate problems with
upside down boolits.
