I picked up a tang-safety Ruger M77 in 7x57 last week, so of course I need a new mould. With the current price of j-word bullets, using lino and ordering a custom mould quickly becomes practical, I'm just looking for a starting point.

Ideally, I'd like to find something that I can use for full-power or near-full-power practice loads. What have people had good luck with in the long-throat chamber Ruger was using in the mid-70s?

Thanks!

My Ruger #1 is of the long throated vintage, and the longer the boolit the better. I use the Ideal 287405, the 287308 and sometimes the 287221, although the latter tends to tip a little because the lack of gas check means velocity and stabilization are limited.

Thanks--I've got those added to the list of moulds I need to check out. I'm trying to figure if it would be better to just get a custom mould from scratch or try an off-the-shelf mould or moulds first.

Thirty caliber and 8mm are definitely easier . . . .

Hey Coffeecup,
I have the RCBS 2-Cavity Bullet Mold 7mm-168-SP and the lee 130 gr. molds. they both shoot great in my 7mm-08. I give my buddy who has a 7x57 no.1 the 130 gr. lee bullets and they shoot great in his gun also. I hope this gives you a start on things.

I have a fat nose RCBS 145-SIL that works great in mine.

Thanks guys. After bumping a slug in the chamber throat, I've decided to start with the RCBS 165, and go longer from there.
