My 45 colt cylinder for my Blackhawk run large in the throats, all of .454".

Picked up an old sc Lyman 454485 ata a show yesterday, which casts about 457" and runs about 270 grains in my alloy. Almost a light 45-70 bullet.

Anyone use this boolit and have any data, maybe with 2400 or something like that? I only found one piece of data in an old Lyman manual - 10 grains of unique.

No time with Lyman #454485, but LOTS with #454424 and 454190. At 270 grains its weight is less than 10% heavier than #454424. If it was me in your spot, I would look at data for #454424 and start 10% under those recipes, knowing all along that in a Ruger BH you have a surplus of strength as a "firewall".

How about data for the RCBS 45-270-SAA? that'll work. Begin at starting loads and work up.

I shoot Mihec's 270gr .45 bullet sized to .455" in my S&W 25-5. With 2400 powder, I use 18gr for about 1050fps. Great whitetail medicine. With your Blackhawk, you can certainly load more powder than I use, if you are so inclined.

In my RNV I run 9.5 grs unique behind the 452-424 which gets me something over 1000 fps. I'm not familiar with your boolit but the 452-424 takes almost a grain more powder to get to the same velocity as the Lee 452-255 RF because of setting farther out of the case.

In my Ruger BH's both cylinders were very tight so after boring them .45225 they both shoot Mt Baldy 283 grain lead boolits terrific, better than I can hold them. Load for both is 16.5 of #9 for 1075 fps and 1060 fps. 18.0 of 2400 does almost as good using this bullet and the RCBS 270 mold.
