I finished this stock for a gunsmith who is refinishing a double barrel 20 gauge. I used the french polish method and teak oil. I'm guessing about 12 coats of oil finished with 3 coats of carnuba wax. It's one of the plan grades of walnut. All it took was a little fitting and a lot of rubbing. Tip: after you buff out a coat of wax with a clean cotton cloth use some burlap to really bring out the finish. I'd like to do one of the fancy grades of wood next.

Believe it or not that was a pretty plain piece of walnut or least one of their cheaper blanks, There was no flame to be seen until I had rubbed it down pretty well. Here is what it looked like when I got it in.

I had just finished fitting it.

I'm curious about your French polish method. I always thought French polish was shellac and linseed oil, rubbed into the wood with a cloth pad until the pores were filled.
Nice looking stock.

Yup, with a alcohol base. That's French Polish that I know. A rubbed shellac finish.
