I took the New Service out today with some Magtech .45 Colt ammo that I had lying around. I found according to the serial number record that it was made in 1933 even though it has the earlier non-tapered barrel. Apparently Colt was not above recycling parts off the 1909's they had sent back to the factory. Either way it shoots very well. I had a little trouble getting used to that grip frame and its still a pain to reach that trigger even with the adaptor. Once I got used to it though it proved pretty accurate one handed.

I've got a M1909 with a 5 inch barrel. I love shooting it with the Lyman 452664 RNFP as well as the 454193 Lyman copy of the original .45 Colt boolit. Mine shoots very accurately and has little recoil with the 8 grains of Unique I use or the six grains of Trail Boss.

I also use Schofield brass with a 230 grain cast RN which is also an accurate round.

I really want to get my hands on a S&W New Frontier in .44 Russian. But that's another story.

Solid start. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I'll say! Nice shooting.

That gun's no good--there's a hole in the barrel. Better send it my way so I can fix it.

But seriously, that is some fine shooting with those old, dinky sights.
