Those are beautiful. Good thing you just "banged them out" they would be several major projects in my shop and mine might be mistaken for kindling when I was done. Good job.

Nice work ....do the rules allow them? I know NMLRA rules are fairly strict about X-sticks Do not know other rules.

The cross sticks will be allowed, but the benchrest is simply for my use at my range when sighting in or load development.

I saw a picture of the benchrest in an old book and I just wanted to build one......Was a fun couple hour project.

Good morning
Nice results for just banging about. I sure do like to see wood and not paint.
"Sticks" are my favorite way to go shooting. Gets my bony little body sitting upright in a natural shooting position and recoil gets distributed correctly.
Very nice work !

Very Nice..... Like was already said, If I tried to do that I would only have one toothpick left out of 4 board feet of lumber.

But I guess I would be able to flux a lot!

Nice looking stuff, good job. Makes me miss my wood shop I had to give up when I went back to college.

About the wood shop thing............

A few years back I had an amazing woodshop that I was building wooden boats and period furniture out of. My table saw cost near $8K and along with surface planers, jointer, drill press, etc, I had over $25K into it. I sold it when customers became impossible to please.........My son and I then went into the "Retail Store Fixture" manufacturing business. We had everything CNC. Many times you never even saw the wood while it was being worked on. We had a Holzima panel saw that cost $135,000!!! And a 5 axis CNC router that was just a bit more.

Just before the recession hit we sold the business..........THANK GOD! (It didn't survive with the new owners....)

I haven't touched a piece of wood in near 20 years. Metal working won my "hobby heart" and a lathe and milling machine now stand in my shop where woodworking tools used to live.

But I had a hankering with this Cowboy Action Shooting to build a few wood items. A gun cart with "wagon Boxes was first on the list. And I ended up building a few for friends.

Staging strips came next and this turned into a cottage business. I'm selling tons of these things

So I needed to buy some new woodworking equipment. But it had to be portable so I could store it in the shed and roll it out when needed.

I picked up a fantastic table saw from Lowes for $300. Amazing performer for the money. Portacable is a good brand.

On the slide out table extension I cut a hole and mounted a cheap router from underneath. Works great!

I wanted a stationary Belt Sander so Horrible Freight had one for $199 and I used a 20% off coupon. $160 get you a great sander!

And I bought a $39 drill press from Horrible Freight that is perfect for what I'm doing with it. BTW, the spindle runout on this drill press is near zero!

I bought a real good Freud 60 tooth blade for the tablesaw and away I go.

So for under $500, I have a very functional woodworking shop that I can wheel away into my storage shed. When I think that $500 wouldn't even buy a good set of bits for the CNC router I just shake my head!

But I still like metal working better....Much cleaner!.....Even though all the tools have been modified to collect the sawdust with my shop vac.....I just hate the sawdust over everything!

Glad to see you got a good one. The Porter Cable and Delta brands were bought by Black and Decker a couple of years ago. My experience with Black and Decker is that they can take the best tool in the world and redesign it into the biggest piece of **** you can imagine, all in the name of improvement for manufacturing. I will never buy anything produced by a Black and Decker company.

I have some 'tall' cross stix that I made for shooting in the seated position, but I do most of my shooting at home from a bench.

Realising that the sandbag on The Rock made by Caldwell is not quite the same as shooting off of a leather strip glued to wood, I made this module which gets 'clamped' in position by the 'ears' on The Rock's saddle.

It's relationship with a steel barrel is identical (where the rubber meets the road) to a set of stix ... and is easily switched with the normal sandbag.

Greetings
I like that idea of a bench mount with the leather covered angles. Sit that up on a couple cement block and you would be sitting straight up. I am going to have to explore this a bit.
