Saw an ad on Craigslist yesterday for 65 lbs of lead for $15. I thought, how could I go wrong?
When I got there, lead was in the form of little decoy weights. I asked the guy if he cast them, and he said yes, years ago.
Then I asked what the lead was before he melted it, you know, wheel weights or what....
Well, he said, I used to work in a print shop, and this was all that little type stuff8-)
Linotype? I asked??
Yeah, he said, that's what it's called.

So, seems like I got 65# of linotype for $15. :holysheep

I was happy as heck, but I told a couple of friends I talked to, and they didn't seem very excited.
I thought you guys would understand.

Great buy! Many years ago, when the banks changed from metal to rubber printing plates, I purchased several hundred pounds of linotype, in the small letter form, from my bank at 10 cents a pound. Still have most of it.

Great score! Do check it for hardness, though, it could be anything. I traded for some monotype letters and blocks one time, some of the stuff was as soft as stick-on weights, some was a true 22 bhn, lots of it was anything in between, the antimony and tin gets depleted every time the letters are recast. Watch out for the zinc spacer blocks.

Is it just me, or do the ladies have all the luck when it comes to getting lead?

Been trying for years to get the wife to help me find, and collect lead. No Luck !!!
She said I already had over a bucket that I hadn't used.
She will never understand. She has 2 feet, and a closet full of shoes, but I have enough lead.

my wife is a nut she understands the value of things.
not money so much.
but knows that if you have it you can use it, if you can get it do so.
she actually told me to buy all three ruger 44 specials as they were all different and i might not like one of them.
i only wanted the blued 4-5/8 ths.
she tried to get me to buy all three 45 convertibles too when i bought the blued 4-5/8ths.
but i held out and won this one.
i told her the price of lead had gone up a nickle in the last two days.
her response? yeaaah we are rich.
nooo, it now cost more to buy...

Great find, wrench.

My wife was never into hunting or shooting but she let me carry on. I miss her so much.
