I have wanted a Spencer for quite a while. This one started life as a Model 1860 carbine in caliber 56-56, sometime over the years the carbine barrel was removed and a poorly fitted rifle barrel in 56-46 was installed. Since I have a new 50 caliber barrel on hand and dies and brass are available, I'm going to make a new center-fire block, replace the rifle barrel with a carbine length one and change the caliber to the 1865 vintage 56-50. Ought to be fun to shoot.

I've always loved those Spencers myself, I think they are a great piece of untold American history, as well as being a fun rifle to handle. That sounds like a great project, I hope it turns out well for you.

I have one of the replicas in 45 Colt, but have a hankering for one in 56-50. Keep us posted on your efforts.

How bad is the 56-46 barrel, dies and moulds are available for it .I have 6 Spencers in 56-56 ,56-50 and a sporting rifle in 56-46 and it is by fare the most acurate, though it took a long time to find the right mould for it.Centerfire blocks are available from BACO and S&S firarms ,you will also need to modifiy the cartridge folower or buy a aftermacket one for the centerfire cartridges. If you do not want the 56-46 barrel I would be interested in buying it.Would it be posible to show other phots of the Spencer,it may be just the photo but it looks like a Spencer sporting stock and the barrel also looks like a Spencer sporting rifle barrel ,but from the photos its hard to tell
