I see they just announced the 10/22 Take down model. Finally a good development in the .22 cal. market that actually makes sense.Robert

Was just going to post this myself.

http://www.ruger.com/products/ruger1022Takedown/models.html

First they came out with the sr22, a 10-22 converted up to look cool? Now this, which I think it's a better way to go. So, are they going to sell the stock and barrel as an upgrade kit? I also think it would have looked nicer with a wood stock.

Very cool, Seriously, what took so long on that one. Take downs were always prime collector pieces in older, different models. This one makes sense.

Collector pieces because, (with the notable exceptions of the Stevens 44 and 44 1/2, and the Maynard) the vast majority of them didn't shoot very well.

Won't be a problem here because standard 10/22's don't shoot well either. Now they will be even worse.

I've had my 10-22 since 89 and it has always shot great. Put a quality score on it and its good to go. Got my daughter one a couple years ago and hers also is a quality shooter. I would easily kill squirrels rabbits and ground moles out to 75 plus yards with mine growing up.

I've owned my 10/22 most of my life and can, without much trouble, hit a baseball out to 100 yards offhand. I don't know what more you would want from a semiautomatic .22

It will make cleaning the barrel from the chamber end easier. Other than that, why would a take down carbine be needed?

I have only cleaned the barrel on either of my 10/22`s possible twice since I have had them, mid `60`s for one and early `70`s for the other. Although I have cleaned the actions and clips more frequently for reliable functioning. The benefit for a take down model is the ability to reduce the overall length for transporting, either in a backpack or packing for travel. I realise that this rifle won`t be everyones cup of tea, but for a good number of us this is something that turns our crank!Robert

Huh?

My standard 10/22 from around 1975 shoots great! Between my now 36yo son & myself the rifle has around 50,000 rounds through it & it's still going strong.

I have found that torquing the action screw to around 15in lbs sure helps with the accuracy.

I break down my T/C Contender carbine .223 Rem
and put it in a scabber on my motorcycle to go and
shoot ground hogs, because the price of gas is getting high.

Don't regular rifles fit into scabbards, too?

Well, I bought one the other day. Unfortunately, we have an 11 day nuisance waiting period out here, so I can’t pick it up until the 17th. I paid $349, which is a little more than I thought it would be.

I have a standard 10/22 that I bought in 1980 that has always shot and cycled well. It even cycled 22 longs without a hitch, which surprised me. I’m hoping this one will do as well. I suppose I should do a comparison shoot when I get a chance.

I just checked my records and I see that this is the fourth rimfire that I’ve bought in thirteen months. I do believe I’m on a 22 kick. ;-)

Pulled out a Bull Barrel 10/22 out of the safe and updated it with a Bushnell scope with Mil Spec dots and ended up with a gun that was dead on at 50,75 and 100 yds. using the crosshairs and two of the Mil Spec dots. Not bench rest but it put 15 shots in 1.5 inches @ 50 yards.

I don't know what 10/22's you have been shooting but I have 3 and all my buddies have them and they are the most accurate 22 any of us have shot.

I got to handle one of them in the local gunshop last week. I really liked it. Lock-up was good and tight. I'll probably wind up getting one to go with the rest of the 10/22 herd.

I worked up a bull barrel stainless 10-22 last week and was very happy with the accuracy at 50 and 100 yards using CCI Green tag ammo

For what it is worth Jeff it is not totally wrong I have had 5 10/22s in my lifetime and will not own an other they are average shooters at best. Yes some are better than others but the only accurate one I had was a factory target model that was so heavy it was better suited for a boat anchor. I have shot Marlin semi autos that consistently out shoot any 10/22 I have ever owned. My 22's these days are older Marlin bolt actions they are very accurate. I use one for Silhouette shooting any misses is me not the rifle.

Then you have not shot a truly accurate 22. Or have you made them target rifles> If stock there is better out there I know that for fact.

Now they need to make a .17 Mach2 barrel, caliber change with the flick of the wrist.

I got to handle one of these take down models. Its a neat set up, and for what its designed for, it should be able to put meat in the pot. I know I am going to steping on alot of toes here, but expectiong sub moa from a standard hunting rifle is probably asking to much at times. I know a gentleman in his mid 80's that has been shooting high power matches for over 50 years. 30 years of that was with the Marine Corps. His standard for a 600 yard rifle is 2 inches or less at 100. At 600 that is the x ring. I am all for tight little one hole groups, but I think we are setting our expectations to high at times.

I love my TD10/22... Although I have not yet had a chance to shoot it, lol.

I love the fact it'll fit in my daypack (get gone quick bag).
