I have 5 lbs. of IMR4227. So, I am looking for various ways to use the powder. I am looking for load data from reloaders with a fair amount experience with it.

The bullets are all cast bullets. The calibers and bullet weights are as follows:
**.454 Casull, 360 grain WFN plain-based bullet
**.44 Magnum, 240 grain Lee tumble lube bullet TL-430-240
**.357 Magnum, 158 grain Lee tumble lube bullet TL-358-158

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

This may help a little , don`t know if it lists the 454 though .

IMR4227 is my go to powder for both my .44 mag Marlin and .303 Brit, also used in .308, all with cast boolits.

My normal load for the .44 with 240 to 265 gr. boolits is 22 to 24 grs. IMR shows 24 grs. max under a 240 gr. lead boolit and 22.5 brs. max under a 270 gr. "J" bullet.

There may be better powders around but I have always gotten good results with IMR4227.

With a 250 grain SWC you can use 17 grains for a medium level target load. If you want full house performance you can go as high as 23 grains of 4227. The load comes from the tables published by Dupont several years ago. LLS

You will need to find some older data as the current data will be for AR2205 ex ADI AU.

Lyman's 4th lists IMR4227 starting at 14 max at 15.5, I shoot 14.5 for .357mag with that boolit.

In 357, 41, or 44, I don't think you can stuff enough 4227 of either flavor with any bullet to make an over pressure load.

I would think it would be much to slow of a burn rate for those

I would simply take a look at some of your loading manuals and see how they list 4227 for your calibers.

It's not quite that simple anymore as the new IMR4227 is AR2205 out of ADI. The older IMR4227 was Canadian as I understand. Slightly different powder.

As Jeff says, new IMR4227 and H4227 are both the same thing and are from ADI as AR2205. It would be interesting to know the difference between the old and new IMR4227.

Castpics to the rescue!

www.castpics.net/LoadData/Freebies/RM/IMR/IMR01.pdf (http://www.castpics.net/LoadData/Freebies/RM/IMR/IMR01.pdf)

Has the older IMR4227 data. There is 44 mag and 357, no 454 that I can see.

Look on your label.....if it says made in Australia, it's really relabeled H4227 as mentioned in several other posts. They just colored it darker with the addition of a little graphite, which the original H4227 did not have to any noticeable degree.

The infamous "bait and switch" tactics by Hodgdon. They told everyone they were "keeping" IMR 4227 but they really substituted H4227 for it and dropped IMR 4227.
