I've been tinkering off and on with a .243 Ruger No.1B I gunshow purchased a few years back.

This particular rifle has always showed some promise for accuracy...and I've found a couple different methods for getting really decent accuracy.

Method 1...the previous owner/owners had removed a bit of wood from the inletting in the forearm where the screw holds the wood to the forearm hanger...this allows the shooter to tighten/loosen the screw until the forearm to barrel pressure is just so. Rifle will shoot pretty decent with the screw tightened just so.

Method 2...I manufactured a set of shims to fit the inletting somebody had trimmed out. One particular shim is just a maybe a bit thicker than the removed wood. This shim installed and the forearm tightened up on it yeilds great accuracy. Turns the Ruger singleshot into a moa shooter.

Basicaly I would like to replace my shim with Brownell's Acraglas gel. However I'm fearful the stuff will fill in around the reduced shank forearm screw...causing me grief.

Do you think release agent will keep the gel from trapping my screw?

Here is what some previous owner did to my 220 Swift. I don't know any particulars and found it once I got home from the gunshow and tore it down to clean it. I hope maybe you can get an idea or 2 from it.

Here is a 100 yard group. I was just checking to see if it was zeroed. This is with factory Hornady ammo. I have tons of reloading supplies from previous 220's, but I was given a few hundred rounds of the factory Hornady and will shoot them before I start playing with loads for accuracy. I believe I shot about 3 groups with it that day and it seems they all would touch 2 and then throw one about 1" out. I didn't give it much thought since I have to lift the rifle from the sandbags to reload it and figured I wasn't getting everything back the same between shots.
