For those that have the Ruger Flattop Blackhawk .44 Magnum made to celebrate the 50th year of the .44 Magnum round, what numbers have ya'll be finding when you mic the chamber throats and bore?

Thanks

Mine is an early one, #566, and I shot 300 rounds of jacketed magnum loads (240 gr over 24 gr H110) through it before slugging. The groove diamter is .4295 and very consistent all the way with no "constriction". The chamber throats are a consistent .431 - .4313. I size my cast bullets at .430 and they shoot as well as any sized a .431 or .432.

BTW; I love mine.

What kind of j- boolits do you use for this breakin process. Also would a plated boolit work?

I use 3 boxes of 240 XTPs. Could have used less expensive jacketed bullets but that is my jacketed hunting bullet of choice and I want to get a good feel for this revolvers performance with it. It shoots it very, very well BTW and is still my jacketed bullet of choice for this and my other .44 Magnums.

I don't know if plated bullets would work or not as I've always used jacketed bullets for barrel break in of a new firearm.

The one I measured was very similar to the one Larry has. A friend bought one for a paltry 400 bucks NIB and wanted to see if it was suitable for cast. As I recall, the bore was right at .430 and the chamber throats ranged from .431+ --.4315 with three being .4312.

I told him it was no good and he should sell it to me, but he didn't believe me.

I'm always amazed by this sort of question. Would you ask a friend what size shoes
he uses and then buy the same?

I know that there is a possibility that the one you get/have is the same as someone
else's, but this is a pure guess and not particularly useful for anything, IMO.

Dreaming that all 50th BH .44s are the same is just that, a dream. Each gun
must be measured to do this properly.

Please - no offense intended, just observations that this isn't really the way to
go about fitting boolits to your gun.

No offense taken. I have two of them and was just trying to find out if these are in the same ballpark as other owners. I have heard horror stories of greatly varying throat sizes within the same cylinder.
