I Just slugged the barrel on my old 3 screw and it comes out at 0.3085.
I'd like to find something around 115 grains, not really a lot of choices around I can find yet.
Must be some guys around here shooting that thing, anybody have some favorites?
With a bore size like mine would you look for 0.309 or maybe 0.310?
Just trying to get a few ideas.

I used 311316 for years in a Ruger. 115 gr., gas checked, pushed hard with H-110 or later Li'l Gun. More than duplicated Mil-spec performance.

Can't find that number listed anymore.
Was that a 0.311 designed for something like the 32-20?

Yes indeed, that is exactly what it was. The 311-316 is a 115-ish grain gas check Wide Flat Nose design, that, although not currently being manufactured, still shows up on the used market from time. AFAIK, RCBS still makes a similar boolit mold called the 32-115 FN, while Lee makes the 30-120 "soupcan." Both are very similar to the 311-316. Other molds to look for would include Lyman's 311-359,311-410, 311-419, 311-441, 311-465, and311-576. These are all gas check designs, mostly discontinued, but I would think that the currently available plain-base Lyman 311-008 might be just the ticket. Properly sized and cast hard, I can't see why it wouldn't work just fine.

Thanks, the 311008 PB looks nice. With that I wouldn't have to mess with gas checks.
Lee has a similar 100grn, the 311-100-2R which looks like a good candidate too.
What would you size to?
I've been using MBC 115grn PB 309's in my BH, but it doesn't seem to be a tack driver like other BH's I've had.

I've been using the RCBS 115 grain RN GC. Make sure that OAL permits clearance for cylinder to turn. I use 13 grains of 4227 for equal performance to GI ball, but several powders will work as well. LLS

I use the Lyman 311008 ahead of 5.6 grs of Unique. It's not a full power load, but it shoots nice. Kind of looks like a 22lr on steroids.

Considering what you've described, this is pretty close and it has a gas check ....which you may need in the 30 carbine :

I use this one on both the carbine and in the Ruger.
It is a great bullet.

I never had good results useing 30 carbine brass in mine,so i use 32-20 brass and it works just fine.

It makes the old blackhawk sing a sweet song...just a thought.

I've heard of doing that.
But, I was able to get gobs of carbine brass, so I'll just use it.

i got a bunch of 30 carbine brass too.
i use the 32-20 brass in mine and the rcbs 32-098 rnfp sized to 313.
i shorten the brass to fit the crimp groove it's a little sweetheart now.
i have taken a deer some rock chucks and some prairie dogs with it.
it went from an eargensplitter to nice and accurate.

Probably decide in a couple days which mold to try for the carbine.
Gets pretty spendy trying several different ones. For now I'll probably go for one PB at .309.

The 32-20 does not work with the old models. The recoil shield almost touches the cylinder. There is not enough gap.

I assume you mean the rim of those cases wouldn't drop in far enough to keep from locking up the cylinder.
I don't know. Mine's a 70s 3 screw and is pretty tight, but I don't have any 32-20 cases around to even check.

strange thing about the 32-20 working the 25-20 don't and the bee don't either.
for some reason the 32 has a thinner rim even though they are all basically the same case necked up and down.
it might have something to do with the case being slightly larger in diameter i'd bet they make them all from the same size disc of brass and the extra material has to come from somewhere.
the older ones might not take a rimmed case.
if dan says so i believe him.
