I have seen some threads indicating others have seen a bright purple surface color when rendering their lead. It seems as though they were using virtually pure lead. Can this happen with WWs as well? Got a batch reeeaaalll hot today and it was bright purple on top. It came back almost as soon as I skimmed it. At first I thought I melted some zinc into it, but from what I read that is probably not the case. Anyway, mostly just relating somethimg that happened today. Pretty sure it is a non-issue based on other threads.

I have melted WW where it turned purple on top until skimmed. I think it's getting so hot the metals are seperating or something like that!

mm76:" you got that part right.
Always wondered just what metal it was. Think it might be tin, or zinc.

To me, that's a sign to flux a bit and start cutting back on the heat, or add more metal to the pot.

Flux and mix it back in is much better than skimming it off.

its your tin.to much heat could give fumes to some alloy and poison you.
