In January I posted about my J-frame, high mileage, loose, B/C gap 0.012", started dropping the hammer in DA before the cylinder locked. Most folks here suggested sending it back to S&W for repairs. I sent it in late in January.

S&W set the barrel back, recut the forcing cone, fitted a new hand all for $86!!!

Its back. B/C gap is 0.004" and the cylinder locks before the hammer drops in DA.

I hope to shoot it this weekend to verify function and POI.

Thanks to all that talked me in to sending it back to S&W. Good move.

Assuming the good function that the "test drive" seems to bear out--$86 is a stone bargain.

awesome. there are times the people that built something are certainly the right people to fix it.

I had a mod 14 K frame rebuilt by a local smith 6 or 7 years ago as it had been shot until it was out of time. Price was $95. You did good. Gianni

Fired 250 rounds. Shoots where its pointed. In DA, the hammer falls on the center of the primers. Shooting unsupported, 15 yds, 3" groups. SA trigger, no creep, sweet.

Great to have it back in my pocket.

I have a Colt Pocket Positive x 6"/nickel that needs similar work, a new advancing hand is called for. Colt isn't answering that phone any more, so it's on me. Gotta find the part someplace--if someone has an idea, I'm all ears.

I believe James Wisner makes those kind of parts. He's a member here so you can send him a PM or go to his website:

dmbassking...Yeah shipping...S&W asked that I send it overnight either UPS or FedEx. I sent it FedEx overnight, cost $48. S&W covered the return shipping and it came overnight UPS.

jaystuw...How many shots? Can't tell it all, I bought it in the late 70's, moderately loose but plenty serviceable. It was my main carry gun for little over 20 years. Probably averaged a couple hundred a month. Mostly Bullseye and wadcutters with some JHPs over Unique. Check out the search function for "Wore out my J-Frame" here and see if you can dig up the first post.

I've since moved to a SP101 in .357 for daily carry and the little Mod 60 in .38 mainly follows me around the house between shower and bedtime. It'll be shooting only cast now. Mostly over Herco or Red Dot. I'll leave the heavy lifting for the SP101 (which is currently loaded with 358091's at 1100 fps)
