When I order the fire lapping kit from bear tooth should I get the boolits that he makes or can I use my own?

Don't know about Beartooth but my Wheeler kit from Midway uses my own boolits.

How do you like it? The barrel I was wanting to use it on really isn't that bad but I just figure it couldn't hurt. I can see some small tool marks in the grooves.

I like it but it's the only one I've ever used so I can't compare.

I've heard the boolits used need to be soft....but thats a relative term. Any truth to this?

I've also heard that firelapping destroys the brass you use....again any truth? I have a .45 colt that has a bore thats rougher than a cobb. I'd like to fire lap that gun.

Some say they need to be soft, some say they need to be hard. I used what I had which had a bhn of about 9

I had a lot of brass ready to go so each one was only used once, no problems I'm aware of.

Buy Marshall Stanton's Technical Guide when you get the lapping kit. He explains the whole process; why to use soft slugs, low velocity, and the proper lapping compound. I've done 4 or 5 rifles and 10 or so handguns and All have been improved by fire lapping.
