First i am new to posting on this site been reading and casting for about a year. I have had good luck with 30-06, 30-30 and some pistol with cast load.

I have bushmaster 1 and 9 twist 223 20in barrel. I found 23grs imr4895 is min. to cycle action so i started there. now the problem I am using the lee bator mold that is 51grs with gas check and lee tumble lube sized .225 and win. small rifle primers non mag. but i am getting unburnt powder and in the barrel and now i have had 3 rounds out of 20 that have squibed fired 1 didn't leave the barrel but pushed out ok with rod.

So i am looking for suggest of what to do next. Maybe other primers possible mag. or other powder but i dont have any other rifle powder on hand, or darcon fill? any input would be very help full thank you.

One other thing is even loads that fire leave some powder in the barrel but they seem to group fair 2-3in and 50yds. from what i have heard about 223 and that rifle isnt a bench rifle i think that is a good start.

Switch to H4895 (tudge faster, ignites easier, "Extreme" powder)

Drop back to 19 gr

Use a 1/2 gr dacron filler

Work back up in 1/2 gr increments until functioning is 100% (will be less than 23 gr)

Use a role Lee LFD crimp to put a medium to heavy crimp

And, if you can, go to a heavier 55 - 60 gr bullet (see if you can find a 225462 for sale)

Best accuracy is going to be right at 100% functional reliability.

You might try this:

There are several powders you can try also. Any good reloading manual will have them under the starting load for a jacketed bullet of the weight your shooting. The slower powders are usually better for cast.
