Been pretty busy latly. Many orders to finish and several PM's to reply to but I stepped out today for a bit of R&D with the 9s BTSniper 22 cal bullets. Got to do a bit of shooting when I can or I will go a bit crazy.

It seems it is pretty difficult to find any flat land around here that will allow more then a couple hundred yrd shots, still got a bit of snow closing off roads and a lot of blow down trees blocking roads, but after driving a few new roads I found a spot that worked.

I tested some factory Sierra 60 grain varmint bullets against the same bullet I reswaged in my 9s 22 cal point form die. I figure if there is any falts in my die the head to head test should show up on paper. The reswaged bullet took on my sleeker 9s ogive and a slightly larger pressure ring at the base of the bullet, it also seemed to close up the hollow tip of the bullet just a bit. The orginal bullet was like .2242 at the base and mine turned out at about .2246. With everything else being equal as far as the weights, jackets ratio of lead to jacket etc. all being the same this seemed like a good test.

9 shots where fired with the reswaged bullets and 7 of the orginal bullets where fired. Business card was pictured for size compare and the orange target is 2.25" diameter.

I think you will see the results from the reswaged bullets from my die where everybit as good as factory and possibly a bit better.

I loaded up some of my match preped LC brass with 20.5 grains of RL-7 powder and a Wolf 223 primer.

I still have yet to get a good shooting bench or table to shoot off of so these tests where done with my heavy rest laying of the soft uneven earth of mud, gravel, rocks and wood chips and I lay on the ground for shooting. Not bad but not ideal for me.

Gun was my trusty Stock Savage 12 BVSS 223 rem with 26" fluted barrel.

500 yrds is a good distance for the 223 rem but I was plesently supprised with teh accuracy results.

Here is some pics of the results.

Here you can see the target in the distance. It was a piece of plywood about 3'x3'

Difficult to get a pic but got the yrds for you. Also added a second target.

I'll have more details to follow I'm sure, like testing the 6s ogive bullets as well.

I was able to shoot some 65 grain bullets I had made from 22lr brass and I got a 3 shot group of 9" @ 500 wich would equal about a 1.8" group at 100, the 5th bullet took the group out a bit and you got to wonder is it easier to shoot 1MOA at 100 yrds or 500! I plan to test the 22lr brass a bit more. I got a 3 shot group with the 55 grains that looked promising, Two bullets where within less then 2" and the third went 5" high for some reason.

I am certainly happy with the performance I am getting with these bullets and dies. I think when I get a better shooting platform I may be able to improve quite a bit more.

Good shooting and Swage On!

Groups size of targets pictured above.

Figure I'll post tightest 4 shots then add addition shot untill all shots fired giving best possible group comparison I guess. All shots where fired at same target.

shots fired

#, factory, BTS

4. 2.25" 1.15"

5 . 2.60" 2.00"

6. 3.70" 2.85"

7. 4.45" 4.17"

8. ----- 4.44"

9. ----- 4.80"

Granted this makes the reswaged look pretty good but who knows what I might have done with two more of the factory in hand. I was impressed I was able to shoot those 6 shots of the reswage all within 1.5" of the center of the 2.25" bulls eye target. Three hit it with the others not more then .25-.50" from hitting the small target. This group would be 7 dead critters out of 9 shoots at 500yrds!

Yes it is nice country. A bit wet for me here on teh west side of OR. I still like Eastern Oregon, Idaho and Montana, actually anything west of Denver and I'm pretty happy.

Good shooting and Swage On!

Here is the 500 yrd 5 shot group, circled in blue, that went 9" with some 65 grain SP bullets I made from the 22LR brass jackets. The white stickers are covering the first group shot with the factory Sierra 60 grain bullets. I still feel I have yet to find the sweet spot yet with these 22LR jacketed bullets and my gun but I'm getting closer and 1.8 MOA at 500yrds with these bullets isn't anything to complain about yet.

Here is a 3 shot group that had some potental. These where 55 grain 9s bullets made from 22LR brass. Had that shot not gone high it would have looked pretty good, hopfully it was shooter error. :) Doesn't take much of a flench at 500 yrds to drasticaly effect your group. I only had three left because I had to adjust my elevation compaired to the 60 and 65 grain bullets.
